Develop Joyful Habits

Wake up early. Never stop learning. Take time to meditate or practice goal visualization. Exercise regularly. Surround yourself with success. Make sure you get enough sleep. We’re all familiar with these examples of good habits, which studies have found are key to success.

So why is it that one in three adults don’t get enough sleep, and only 23% get enough exercise? We’re busier than ever – and we could all benefit from taking the time to develop good habits.

It’s time to ask yourself, “How am I going to live today in order to create the tomorrow I’m committed to?”

You must commit to constant and never-ending improvement. It’s up to you to pursue positive habits instead of letting yourself succumb to feeling burnt out, and ultimately, giving up on your goals. Learn how to create good habits, and you’ll feel like your life is limitless.

Take a break

What are good habits? They’re not all about work. The first step is realizing the benefits of taking a break. Breaks can be mental or physical, like reading, listening to a podcast or going for a walk. It may seem counterintuitive, but you’ll return to your workload with more drive and focus. Take time to develop good habits – even if you have just 10 minutes to spare.

Vacation time is also a must. One study found that people who took more time off had a higher chance of getting a raise or bonus. Double the effect of your vacation when you attend events that fuel your passion, like Unleash the Power Within. When you commit to learning how to create good habits, you’ll return to your everyday life feeling ready to conquer your objectives.

Reflect on your goals

Mind over matter isn’t just a saying. Various types of meditation are some of the best examples of good habits. Meditation is proven to reduce stress – and when you feel calm and relaxed, you can laser-focus on your goals. Tony starts his day with a 10-minute priming exercise that involves focusing on the breath, practicing gratitude and getting in touch with your energy. Goal visualization is another type of meditation that can help you focus and achieve your dreams.

Be present

The reason you’re working so hard is probably because you want to spend more time with the people you love. You want to provide for your family or have the finances you need to go on vacations with friends. But how are you spending time with your loved ones right now? Are you truly enjoying their company or are you distracted by answering work emails or responding to texts? Being fully present with the ones you love is the perfect example of a good habit.

Find your purpose

The best tip for developing good habits is to make sure they are rooted in something you deeply care about – whether it’s spending more time with your family, giving back or retiring comfortably. If you’re passionate about your work and enjoy pursuing your goal, this joy will spill into other areas of your life, too.

When you’re not working, fill your calendar with activities you love. Balance out work with things you enjoy, like spending time with your kids or hiking outdoors. Not sure where to begin? Firewalking can help you realize what makes you truly happy. After attending UPW and completing the Tony Robbins firewalk, you’ll return to your daily life with a renewed sense of purpose, passion and confidence.

As Tony Robbins says, “At any moment, the decision you make can change the course of your life forever.” Are you ready for a change?
